RIVER CROSSING SERVICE UNAVAILABLE
In cooperation with the municipalities of Pierreville and Bas-St-François, the community of Odanak had committed to take care of the St-François River pontoon crossing service. Unfortunately, due to the current conditions and the late announcement of the government’s deconfinement plan, we regret to inform you that this service will not be available this summer. We will therefore see you in the summer of 2022!
2021 ODANAK POW WOW
We are very happy to announce that the 2021 Odanak Pow Wow will be held on August 22nd!
Exceptionally, this year’s edition will only take place on one day, but believe us, it will be very full!
Stay tuned to find out more about what to expect during this long awaited event!

Summer Student Position
Looking for a summer student, preferably bilingual, at the AS-01 level. The summer job could be extended as a part-time during the university year.
- Start date: as soon as the paperwork can be processed by HR (could be a month as security clearance can take time).
- Salary: Between $56 250 to $62 910
- Education: University in computer or mathematics
- Key Activities:
- Responsibility for data bases and tracking systems; assess all incoming information, determine priority, classification and method of processing by staff. Perform quality control of data, system functions and issues; report on findings and assist in the implementation of changes to system.
- Manage, analyze and process reports; monitor reports for irregularities and inconsistencies; review, update and validate system data and information; participate in the development and maintenance of management reporting tools.
- Plan, organize, verify information and coordinate the receipt, classification and processing of submissions. Draft and prepare notification documentation.
- Conduct research, analyze and compile background material for use in preparing correspondence, reports, briefing materials and presentations for management, committees, colleagues, clients and stakeholders; respond to enquiries from all levels of government, non-governmental organizations and the public.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures; provide advice and expertise to colleagues and senior management concerning the development of regulations as well as policies, procedures and guidelines.

The Abenaki Nation affirms its capacity to manage its youth protection
Last April, the Abenaki Nation officially notified the federal and provincial governments of its desire to apply the Act C-92 in its entirety and thus manage all actions related to child and family services. As of January 1, 2020, federal Act C-92 explicitly recognizes the inherent right of Indigenous peoples to exercise their own jurisdiction over child and family services, including child welfare.
For almost two years now, the Odanak and Wôlinak Councils have been working to consolidate general family services, but also to integrate youth protection services into the N8wkika program.
The N8wkika program (Child and Family Services of the Abenaki Nation) has been in place for ten years now and supports families in all their needs. For a decade now, more than 200 children have benefited from individual or family follow-ups. These families have been surveyed and have stated that they would like the communities of Odanak and Wôlinak to exercise their jurisdiction and to autonomously manage all services, including youth protection.
Over the years and through daily practice, it has been clearly demonstrated that the Abenaki Nation has the skills, expertise and knowledge to support families in need. Furthermore, the resources of the Abenaki Nation hold all the traditional cultural knowledge that ensures interventions adapted to the specific needs of the children and their families. It is through holistic practice, connected to the strengths of the families and allied to the community approach that the Abenaki Nation will ensure the well-being of the children of the communities of Odanak and Wôlinak.
The collaboration between the Abenaki Nation and the Director of Youth Protection (DYP) being very constructive and knowing that the resources of the DYP themselves possess an essential expertise, Odanak and Wôlinak propose that discussions lead to a partnership that will see the Nation manage its youth protection autonomously while maintaining a close collaboration with the provincial youth protection service.
The Abenaki Nation is now at the stage of finalizing the development of legal, administrative, and clinical structures that will allow it to acquire all the resources necessary to manage all child and family services and to ensure the protection of its youth.
It is expected that by the beginning of 2023, the children of the communities of Odanak and Wôlinak will be protected by internal resources in collaboration with the provincial and federal partners who will respect the self-determination of the Abenaki Nation.

MAY 3RD, 2021 | BULKY WASTE PICK-UP
Please note that the bbulky waste pick-up will take place as planned on May 3, 2021 in Odanak.
It would be preferable to put out your garbage to the road the day before because the garbage pick-up is very early in the morning.
Given the current situation of Covid 19, the Régie must modify its usual method and request the collaboration of all.
- Since there will only have 2 people per truck instead of 3 to respect the social distancing as requested by our government, the pick-up will be done by the trucker and only one garbage collector. If the pick-up is not finished durign the same day, they will finish it the next day.
THE RÉGIE DOES NOT PICK UP:
- Used Construction materials
- Used automobile batteries
- Used tires
- Used metals
- Household garbage
- Large waste such as stone, concrete, soil or any other similar waste
- Dangerous substances such as paint, dye, oil, grease or other similar materials as well as containers containing these materials

La SCHL est à nouveau prête à recevoir vos demandes pour l’Initiative de stages en habitation pour les jeunes des Premières nations et les jeunes Inuits (ISHJPNJI) pour l’année fiscale 2021-2022.
Contrairement aux années précédente, vous devez remplir un formulaire disponible sur l’application « SimpleSurvey » pour soumettre votre demande. Il vous faudra environ 10 à 15 minutes pour répondre à cette demande, une fois que vous aurez toutes les informations en main. Pour remplir ce formulaire, CLIQUEZ ICI.
La date limite pour soumettre votre demande est le 23 avril 2021. Veuillez noter que le lien de l’application « SimpleSurvey » fourni sera fermé en fin de journée le 23 avril.

Qu’est-ce l’initiative de stages en habitation pour les jeunes des Premières nations et les jeunes Inuits (ISHJPNJI) ?
L’objectif de ce programme est d’aider les jeunes autochtones à acquérir des compétences professionnelles essentielles et à se renseigner sur les possibilités d’emploi et de carrière dans le domaine du logement. Les postes peuvent être dans les domaines suivants : construction et rénovation, administration, finance, gestion immobilière, etc.
Les jeunes doivent avoir entre 15 et 30 ans inclusivement, être sans emploi et ne pas recevoir de prestations d’assurance-emploi ou accepter de cesser de recevoir des prestations avant le début du stage. Le stage doit être d’une durée minimale de 8 semaines et maximale de 52 semaines par année. La durée totale du stage pour un même stagiaire peut aller jusqu’à 2 ans. Cependant, vous devez refaire une demande pour la deuxième année au début de l’année fiscale suivante et cela dépendra de la disponibilité des fonds.
